My new love: Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 33 La Distinguee

If you were to ask me if I am a lipstick or gloss person, it will definitely be lipstick. I used to love MAC glosses but the stickiness of the gloss was just too much for me to bear, especially when the wind blows and I have a bunch of hair stuck to my lips, no thanks to MAC. Given my natural darker lip colour (where SAs sometimes mistaken me of applying lip colour on my lips when I didn't), I specially think glosses will just look plain glossy on me and that's that. With lipsticks, the colour will tend to be more obvious.

I have tonnes of lipsticks, to be honest. But still I couldn't resist buying more because there is always new formula, new finish, new shades, new collections!! Totally spoilt for choice! I have hoard enough lipsticks to worry that they will turn bad before I can finish using them, but again, who cares? I am STILL buying more, haha.

My latest love has got to be Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet. Not only is the casing classy, the formula is amazing. Even though it is a matte finish, it's not drying and feels smooth and moisturising on your lips. For ladies with dry lips, you might want to apply a thin layer of lip balm before applying the lipstick, just to play safe. I personally got dry lips and is a lazy bum when it comes to applying lip balm, but Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet still goes on fine on my lips.

I scored 33 La Distinguee last weekend when I met up with Juju. This shade was strongly recommended by her!

La Distinguee is lovely beige peachy pink shade which is a very versatile shade to wear. Even though I had natural dark lips, this shade doesn't wash me out and instead gives me a nice warm neutral tone on my lips.

It lasted a good 4 hours through breakfast and by lunch time it is gone. Personally, this is a very reasonable staying power coming from a matte lipstick.

Have you checked out Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet range yet? You should if you haven't.

Weekly Photo Challenge – All Star Makeup Edition

It has been a while since I last joined Yumeko weekly photo challenge and it's time to join in the fun!!

1. The Super Star. Something you have used for over a year and will still using.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence and Chanel Mat Lumiere Extreme are 2 products I have been using for years and running through many refills.

2. The Fast Rising Star. Something you have used for over 6 months and will still be using.

Giorgio Armami Eyes To Kill are just amazing. Wonderful texture and lasting power. Love love love!!

3. The Number 1 Draft Pick. Something you just started using and am loving it.

I have never tried lip stains before and YSL glossy lip stains are the first I tried. The colour selections are amazing. I had a hard time trying to choose the shades I wanted!!

4. The FAIL. Something you tried recently and does not work for you.

Revlon lip butters are such a disappointment especially when there were raves and raves going on the beauty blogsphere before they finally reached our shore. But it just didn't work for me, my lips ended up feeling dry and cracked instead of moisturised. *thumbs down*

5. The Experiment. Something you bought and am going to try next.

Ok, this is not something I bought as it was a sample gifted to me by Jacq. Chanel Perfection Lumiere liquid foundation is yet another highly raved product and I'm glad that the initial feel of the product was good so far.

Are you guys interested in joining this photo challenge? Come join in the fun. :)

TGIF

I almost survived the week!!! It's finally Friday today..... It should be 530pm now and not just morning.

In current hectic environment is Singapore, sometimes it's really hard to find a nice, relaxing and cool (given the heat during this time of the year) to hang out. Last week, me and BC headed to MBS after our movie at Marina Square and had our dinner at Coffee Bean & Leaf before the dinner queue starts.

While having our food, the gigantic water fountain next to us start the ritual of releasing water from the top. It doesn't splash unto us at all even though we are sitting pretty near but we can feel a nice cool breeze with faint damp feel. It's quite relaxing in my opinion. Me and BC end up looking at the 'water fall' without talking for about 5 minutes. It feels quite serene with all the crowd still happening around.

After a while, I joked with BC that I felt like I am sitting beneath a gigantic basin and someone above is washing their dishes! Lol

If there is any nice places you guys can recommend for a relaxing weekend, do share with me. Air conditioned place preferred. Haha

My love.........

Everyone like things that are pretty or cute and I am not exception. Throw in a kitty into the equation and you got me immediately. I love cats and all my friends know this fact. Any accessories that has kitties in it, I love it. If it looks cute or is in pink, I HAVE to get it for sure.

Today I am posting this totally random post on my love for kitties and I hope I am not boring you with it. Here are some of the kitties stuffs (other than my 4 life fur babies) I have :)

Paul n Joe has some of the the cutest design and in some collections, kitties are incorporated into the design. Make up + kitties = winner for Ruby, hahahahaha. As you can see above, other than the face & eyeshadow palettes that I have used, the highlighter stick and lipstick are still brand new. This is especially so because I can't bear the thought of the kitty head losing a ear or hat. In any case, I shouldn't just leave it brand new and should really start to use them. Yes yes, Ruby.... Stop being a hoarder. :)

Above is 1 of the few Hello Kitty hand phone case that I purchased after getting iPhone 4S. There you have it, cute + pink + kitty = must buy! Lol

Till today, I have no idea who placed this kitty ornament at my office desk. My friend, L call it the stray cat, haha. I guess someone probably saw my love for cats from the pictures of my fur kids that I placed on my desk and decided to randomly give me this.

All my cats, except for Astro are adopted from Cat Welfare Society. For potential cat owners out there, please please support adoption. Strays or pedigrees, you will receive the same kitty treatment :). I have always supported Cat Welfare Society by donating to some of the appeals that the society posted. This calendar was purchased as part of donating to the society as well and it feature stray cats in Singapore as the calendar models.

Here we have is a thermo mug that doesn't work well to retain heat. But it's cute with all the cartoons and do u see a kitty at the top left hand corner???

Lastly, a kitty hand phone charm!! It's troublesome to remove the plug whenever I would like to plug in my earphone but who cares! It's pretty lor!!

Do u have a fetish for something that you can't resist?? Share with me!

Eyes To Kill 21 Obsidian Grey

In the recent play date with Jacq and Jolyn, Eyes To Kill in 21 Obsidian Grey was one of the haul items I purchased. I made a pact with Jacq that we will use it within a week of purchase and I sticked to my promise. :)

Obsidian Grey look very much like a dark intense grey with teal shimmers in the pot but when swatched, the colour came out more vibrant and beautiful. There are comparisons made between Obsidian Grey and Pulp Fiction given that both are grey shades and I made a comparison for myself to see if they are really different.

From the swatches (pardon the lousy pic), Obsidian Grey came out looking like teal-grey which looks cooler compared to Pulp Fiction which has pink undertones and looking warmer. Do u need both? I say they are different in their unique ways but I'm glad I had both of them.

Finally, the movie 'The Dark Knight Rises' is here!!!! BC and I purchased the tickets in advance and the show is awesome. Even though the movie was close to 3 hours, every single details of the show just make you glued to the movie. By the way, in case you are intending to watch it and also intend to wait till the credits are rolled to see any scenes of a potential sequel, don't waste your time. There are none, haha.

For our movie date, these are the stuffs I used:-

1) YSL glossy stain in 7 Corail Aquatique
2) Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation (sample courtesy of Jacq)
3) Benefit Sugarbomb
4) Canmake Agebuto mascara
5) ETKs in 21 Obsidian Grey and 8 Champagne
6) Shu Uemura eyebrow pencil

I hope you guys have a good week ahead. I am already hoping that it will end soon.

LoveMore Mediterranean Pomegranate Lifting & Whitening Mask

Pomegranate has been known to be a fruit full of anti-oxidant and many have been drinking pomegranate juices or eating pomegranate extracts to get the full benefit of this powerful fruit. What if you can get this benefit from a facial mask? I say this is a wonderful idea!!

LoveMore just came out with one if its newest mask: LoveMore Mediterranean Pomegranate Lifting & Whitening Mask. Other than pomegranate extract as one of the main ingredients, the mask also contain Coenzyme Q10, hyaluronic acid and patented SYN®HYCAN, which is more moisturising and hydrating than hyaluronic acid.

With such powerful ingredients all in a mask, it is able to provide instant , intensive smoothing and hydrating benefits. In fact after removing the mask after 15 minutes and patting the essence in, I noticed my usual large pores are not obvious at all and my skin looks plump and moist with all the moisture goodness absorbed. Despite the humid weather, my skin feels fresh, clear and plump. I say this is a good moisturising mask! In fact on one occasion, I placed the mask in the fridge for hours before using it and it's very refreshing.

There is a light fruity scent when using LoveMore Mediterranean Pomegranate Lifting & Whitening Mask and it should be coming from the pomegranate extract. For someone who doesn't like fruity scents in her skincare, I say the scent is still bearable. I know there are ladies out there who can only take fragrance free skin care products, so you might want to skip this.

The mask is very thin with sufficient essence to stick well to my huge face, haha. But do be careful when removing the mask from the plastic film before placing on your face. As the mask is very thin, I actually tore one of them. Clumsy clumsy me! So be gentle!

For ladies who are keen to try LoveMore Mediterranean Pomegranate Lifting & Whitening Mask, it is available for sale on Secretive.sg at $8.90 for a box of 5 masks. To find out more about Secretive.sg and the masks available, do join their Facebook page!

Play date and Chanel lipstick haul!

There is no better way to spend the weekend meeting new friends and talking about anything under the sun. When Jacqueline of The Beauty Hoard took the lead to organise a play date, I quickly said YES because we have been talking over the web for so long and it would really be wonderful to finally meet.

I am actually very shy when it comes to strangers but thank goodness Jacqueline is such an easy-going person whom we click almost immediately! We had a nice time checking out GA counter at DFS where both of us picked up ETK 21 Obsidian Grey. We are happy gals in beauty haven, chatting about things from beauty, work, family etc etc. Had such good times that it don't cross our mind to take pictures, haha. Jacq, next time ok!!

Our hot mama left earlier for her dance class and I headed over to Chanel Ion to check out the new Chanel collection and Rouge Allure Velvet lipsticks (which is highly raved by Jacq and juju). I was swatching by myself for quite a while and 3 shades caught my eyes: 32 La Ravissante, 35 L' Elegante, 37 L'Exubérante. I really can't decide which to get and decide to get Jacq's advice via Watsapp (the wonder of technology! Haha). I was tempted to get 35 because I have been thinking about getting a bright pink shade that is not too bright but wanted to get a second opinion. Guess what? Jacq also went for 35!! Yeah, that's a go for me!!

The next Rouge Allure Velvet that I intend to get is definitely 32 which is a nice coral colour. Although I have yet to try it on my lips, the initial feel based on the swatch on my hand is that despite the matte formula, it's not drying. Despite cleaning off the swatches after a few minutes with a tissue paper, I can still see stains left behind showing the lasting power of the lipstick.

It's only mid-week and I can't wait for the week to b over. Let's hang in there!!! Ganbatte!!!

Review: Sexylook Intensive Whitening Black Cotton Mask

Personally, I have always felt that in order for me to have a good pore cleansing masking experience, wash off or peel off mask is the way to go. Make sense? Because only by having a mask that penetrates the pores to cleanse it from the inside and washing it away does the pores get thoroughly cleanse. However, the lazy bug in me always deter from using a deep cleansing mask because of the hassle of washing off the mask when you can just peel off the sheet mask and that's it. :)

When Secretive.sg contacted me to review about a sheet mask that is able to cleanse the pores by absorbing dirt and sebum and at the same time able to hydrate the skin, I'm really interested to try and see if it works!

With activated carbon present in the mask, no wonder Sexylook Intensive Whitening Black Cotton Mask is able to absorb dirt and sebum. Carbon is an excellent 'absorber', just imagine the carbon filters sold in Daiso to absorb bad odours!

The function of the mask doesn't end there. Other than deep-cleansing, it has whitening function all thanks to black pearl extract. Dual function mask like this works really well for busy ladies.

Sorry for scaring you guys out with this shoot but this mask is made of black cotton which explains the black mask, haha. The cotton sheet is extremely soft and soaked with essence, which makes it easy for the mask to adhere to my face. It is fragrance free so ladies with sensitive nose need not worry about this.

I left the mask on my face for approximately 25 minutes before removing it and patting in the remaining essence. Interestingly, my face feels slightly warm and I suspect it is due to the carbon but it does not cause any discomfort. With the hydration function of the mask, I do not feel squeaky clean on my skin surface like how it feels when I use a deep cleansing wash off mask. I also notice that my skin looks slightly brighter and fresh after use.

Even though Sexylook Intensive Whitening Black Cotton Mask does not seems to be any different from other sheet masks that I have used, one point worth mentioning was the next day after I used this mask, a pimple that had popped out near my chin subsided substantially!! I'm really glad to see this pimple subsided even though I did not apply any pimple topical gel or cream as I was lazy (again!!!).

For ladies who are keen to try Sexylook Intensive Whitening Black Cotton Mask, it is available for sale on Secretive.sg at a discounted price of $2 per mask (usual price $3.50). To find out more about Secretive.sg and the masks available, do join their Facebook page!

Burberry Rosewood, Chanel Safari & Wet n Wild Silent Treatment

The latest addition to my Burberry stash is yet another eyeshadow and it will be Rosewood. It actually didn't cross my mind to purchase this but it looks like a pretty taupe from online swatches and I totally gave in to it. Really really can't resist taupe shades. :)

From the pan, it looks like a normal pinkish brown shade and the texture is smooth and buttery (as usual). I notice that Burberry shadows can really grow on you. I was initially unimpressed with their colour shades when they first came to Singapore but after more reviews and trials over the counter, I start to appreciate the simplicity of the line.

I thought it would be useful to see if there are any dupes to Rosewood in my stash and I picked out Chanel eyeshadow in Safari and Wet n Wild Color Icon Trio in Silent Treatment.

As you can see from the swatches above, Wet n Wild Silent Treatment seems to the closest dupe with slightly more shimmers. Chanel Safari, on the other hand has more brown tone with gold specks.

Although in terms of colour shade, Wet n Wild Silent Treatment looks almost the same at only a fraction of the price of Burberry Rosewood, the texture is incomparable. This is what we meant by 'paying for quality'.

Hope u guys have an enjoyable weekend ahead, I'm already looking forward to my play date with 3 lovely ladies tomorrow!!!

Dean & Deluca

When I meet up with my girlfriends, I don't usually go shopping with them because I am not a shopping person. I prefer to meet them over a meal or coffee and just sit there and catch up.

It has been a while since I last met up with V and C and it's time for one. Date and time has been confirmed and all that is left is the location. V suggested Dean & Deluca, which is newly opened on level 4 of Orchard Central. This name sound darn classy and since I have never heard of it, I googled for it. Apparently it is a very popular cafe in New York that not only serves nice breads, pastries and food but they do carry groceries such as pasta sauces, various unique condiments (such as truffle sea salt that cost $50!!!) and nice yummy looking cookies and chocolate. Enough said, we are indeed going to this place!!

Given the irritatingly long structure of Orchard Central with confusing shop lots and all, of course I got lost when I tried to look for Dean & Deluca. When I eventually found the cafe, I realised the easiest way is to take the glass lift to level 4 and it's right there. One thing about Orchard Central is that it's not as crowded as other shopping centres in Orchard but Dean & Deluca do not take reservations so it is still better to not go too late.

There is a very very good selection of pastries and breads and all look good and yummy but we did not try any of it. There are a small selection if main course such as salmon, burgers and pastas and also all day breakfast!!! In the end, we ordered Mac & cheese, grilled chicken salad and American breakfast to share.

The taste of the food..... I would say so so. The deepest impression I have about it was mac & cheese as you can see from the pic above that it does not have thick cheese covering it like how we usually sees. Instead, it is in a pie form that's dry. The cheese flavour in the macaroni is just enough and not over powering and I especially like it that I do not get sick of it like how I used to feel when eating normal mac & cheese.

I feel there is no ambience per say because in Orchard Central, everything just seems cold. But nonetheless, I'm glad it is away from the crowds. Price-wise, I would say it's steep since the small portion of mac & cheese cost $10, grilled chicken salad $9 and American breakfast at $22. Oh, just to side track a bit but I love chai tea latte and Dean & Deluca has this drink on the menu called 'Dirty Chai Tea latte'..... Hmmm..... I was laughing with V when we saw this.

Have you checked out Dean & Deluca yet? I feel it is quite an interesting place to go if you have never been there. :)

Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow 17 Pearl Grey

One thing about Burberry Beauty which I love other than the quality of their products is the fact that they keep to a simple, fuss-free permanent line of excellent products that makes consumers like me appreciate their marketing strategy. Instead of launching multiple collections one after and another like the speed of lightning that usually never fails to confuse me, they have a GOOD collection every few months that wow u, in addition to their permanent products.

Anyway, my point here is, not everyone has the luxury of money to splurge in one limited edition collection after another and I am no exception. I tend to think, consider and research a bit before taking the plunge and usually with that, most of the limited edition stuffs are usually sold out (YES, Chanel Sable-Emouvant, I'm talking about you!!!!) so I truly truly appreciate that Burberry has yet to break my heart so far except with the fact that Lavender Blue eyeshadow is still OOS :(

So after my first purchase of Burberry Sheer eyeshadow in Pale Barley here, there is seriously no turning back for me. Their quality is just wonderful, extremely smooth and buttery. Coupled with a eyeshadow primer and you are good to rock the world the whole day, I just love them. However, with a hefty price tag of $46 per shadow, it is quite hard to swallow so I am slowly collecting them bit by bit from the swatches online and recommendations from friends. The latest that came home with me which I posted here was none other than 17 Pearl Grey.

Pearl Grey is a gorgeous cool medium-toned grey with silver shimmers. Words can't describe what was going through my mind when I switched it over the counter then. Mindy, the friendly SA need not tell me anything except 'This is a very beautiful colour.'. I was sold on the spot and I knew this is coming back with me. I believe this would make a beautiful smokey look (which I have yet to master) or double up as a liner for my mono lids but I can't wait to play with it already!!

Have you brought home any Burberry eyeshadows yet? I would love to see your stash!

Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill 1 Blast of Blue

It's a movie date with BC today and I was in a 'vain' mode to dress up my face a little and thus decided to use my Giorgio Armani ETK in 1 Blast of Blue for the first time.

I love the gold and the blue in this pot that gives it such unique look. When applied on my lids, BC commented that it gives a bronzey blue tone. I am pretty lazy and just want to have a quick and fast way to do up my face so I just sweep the colour on my lids and gently blend up towards my crease. That's it, simple one tone eye colour which is super convenient!

Looking at the pic, I think I could have applied more colour near the lashline so pardon the lousy eye makeup here but I seriously like how fuss-free this is. Below are the stuffs I used today and the focus is SPEED with 2-way foundation, simple pink blush and lip gloss. :)

Burberry Eyeshadow Taupe Brown & Pearl Grey

I was walking past Tangs the other day and decided to check out the Burberry counter to see if they have stocks for Lavender Blue since I did not receive any calls from a reservation of this shade after making a reservation 1.5 months ago. Sad to say, this shade is still out of stock!!!

Nonetheless, my eyes started to wonder and I started swatching their eyeshadows and here it is: Taupe brown (a matte brown with slight taupish shade) and pearl grey (a cool grey with silver shimmers). Make a guess which came back with me??? :P

Shu uemura, Chanel and SUQQU haul!!

Tangs Vivocity is having a 12% rebate for Citibank or Tangs Lifestyle Cardholder today and this gives me a good chance or excuse (??) to replenish some of the usual items that I have completed or going to complete.

I was very focused, I only need 2 items:-

1) Shu uemura fresh pore clarifying gentle cleansing oil which I am almost done with the current 450ml bottle
2) A refill for my HG 2 way foundation, Chanel Mat Lumiere Extreme (see post here)

So eventually, have I been a good girl.... well........ I would say 80% good, lol
Yes, I purchased my cleansing oil and yes, I also bought my Chanel 2 way foundation refill but YES..... I also bought a blusher from Shu uemura........ Ok ok, the cleansing oil is already $138 and I'm just $22 away from receiving the gift with purchase which consist of cleansing beauty oil premium A/O advanced formula (with green tea extract and helps in anti ageing), a travel size toner and moisturiser so I thought why not look for a beige pink blusher that I have always been thinking, hehe. Excuses, I know...... but hey, who doesn't need another extra blusher, haha! So here I ended up with blusher in M Soft Pink 326.

Seriously, do you know that the blusher refill itself cost $33 and the case is $14 which comes up to a total of $47? Honestly, thinking back, it is a bit expensive isn't it? Especially when the blush refill is only 4g whereas MAC blush of 6g cost around $30+ and it comes with a case? But well, Shu uemura are known for their pigmented shades so I am paying for quality right?? :) The SA from Shu also gave me a sample of their new cleansing oil which is called Ultime8 Cleansing Oil which helps to protect the skin delicate moisture balance, sounds good...... shall give this a try and review later.

So on a separate note.... I finally got my hands on my very 1st SUQQU Blend Eyeshadow palette! I have only heard good things about this palette and thus even with a hefty price of at least $100+ per palette, most beauty gurus or bloggers will still find a way to have them. Unfortunately for me who stay in Singapore, it is not available over the counters and SUQQU is only available in Japan, Bangkok and UK. So a fellow colleague of mine who is a beauty junkie helped me got it from Japan through her best friend who is there on holiday, so nice of her right???? My choice of SUQQU palette is shade 10 Kozuecha.

Thanks to drivel about frivol who has an impressive collection of SUQQU Blend eyeshadow palettes, it helped me to decide to get Kozuecha. Honestly, I was torn between Kozuecha and Himesango but the latter looks more pinkish with tones of plum from the online swatches so I decided to opt for something more brownish and neutral (BORING!!!!) as my first palette. I have not started swatching and using this yet as I would still like to admire it in it's brand new form for a while so I will post my feel and review of this palette soon.

YSL Glossy Stain 12 Corail Fauve

After the purchase of the first YSL glossy stain in 07 Corail Aquatique, it is certainly no turning back for me. Since it was not readily available in counters in the shopping centres, I was trilled to know that they are available in DFS at Changi Airport and troubled a friend to haul for me when she's going for her holidays.

Zooming down to the colour I want is really not easy as every shade looks gorgeous. Thanks to Front Row Beauty, Tracy's Beauty Blogsphere and My Beauty Hoard, I know 12 Corail Fauve is the next shade to get.

From online swatches, it looks like a bright pink coral that certainly scares me a bit. But I wanted a change in my lip stash away from the usual dusty rose shade that I always end up getting. I'm glad I got this shade as it's bright but not bold and it brightens up your whole look so do remember to go easy on your eyeshadows and blusher. The staying power of YSL glossy stain is amazing. You would be able to see from above that despite me wiping off the swatch with a tissue paper after only a minute or so, you can already see the stain mark.

As my natural lip colour is on the dark side, it does not seems that much brighter like the swatch. But I assure you that the combination of the formula with glossy coupled with strong colour does show up, so what I say? I LOVE this. Everyone should really go get this shade, haha.

My 1st YSL glossy stain was purchased online from Barney's at US$32 and my dear friend managed to help me get this DFS for S$38.80. Do you have any favourite shade of YSL glossy stain? Do share them with me. :)
